Grain size distribution determination by laser diffraction method in soil and sediment samples

Preferential adsorption of radionuclides such as 137Cs and 210Pb to finer grain size can occur in sediment samples. For this reason, the grain size distribution of sediment samples for 210Pb dating should be investigated.

Grain size analysis is performed on an instrument which uses laser diffraction to determine the particle size distribution of solid materials. About 1 cm3 of wet sample is required to perform the analysis.
