
The Illawarra has benefited from close ties with ANSTO which in the last financial recieved an injection of $36.7 million into the local economy through wages and engaging the services of local businesses in the Illawarra region.
An estimated 34 per cent of ANSTO employees live in Wollongong, while 149 Illawarra local businesses provided services and supplies in the last financial year.
Mr Bradbery toured ANSTO and saw first hand the work undertaken at Australia’s only multipurpose nuclear reactor and to discuss the relationship between ANSTO and the local community.
His visit included a tour of ANSTO’s Materials Engineering workshop where he got the opportunity to meet with ANSTO apprentices, including apprentices from Wollongong. ANSTO was able to showcase its landmark infrastructure and its involvement and investment in the Illawarra.
