Rachael Barnett is undertaking a joint Ph.D. between the Bragg Institute and the School of mathematics, physics and I.T. at James Cook University in Townsville. She is supervised by Professor Mike James at the Bragg Institute and Dr. Peter Ridd at JCU.

Rachael’s project is focused on the depletion kinetics of bio-membranes. She will be using neutron reflectometry and quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation to investigate the selectivity of cyclodextrins as cholesterol depleting agents in model membranes.

Rachael completed a B.Sc. (Hons.), majoring in physics at James Cook University in 2007. Rachael worked on the X-ray Reflectometer at ANSTO for her honours project, which involved characterisation of organic thin films for implantable bionic devices.
