Taipan

The Taipan team achieved a major commissioning milestone on February 16 with the first measurement of a phonon. A transverse acoustic phonon was measured along the [001] direction in a single crystal of elemental niobium. The measured intensity (below) is impressive for this early stage of Taipans operation.
