Dr Kerie Hammerton is a biochemist and was until recently leader of the Characterisation of Biomolecules Project at ANSTO. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a BSc (Hons) in 1969 and a PhD 1973 and from the Sydney Institute of Education with a DipEd 1984. Until 2008, as a Principal Research Scientist, the main thrust of her research was investigating the biogeochemical processes involved in waste deposition and management and the impact of pollutants on ecosystems. She has written over 30 publications that have emanated from a wide range of research areas including immunological malignancy and disease states, cancer cell surfaces, chemical toxicology, irradiation technology and food irradiation, and waste management.
