ANSTO LifeSciences' main facilities are located in South Sydney, at Lucas Heights, where most of the radionuclide and radiopharmaceutical research and innovation projects will be carried out.

Enhanced capabilities in structural and functional biology, associated with the ability to use ANSTO's unique nuclear technology platforms, will contribute to the development of even more pertinent and well-designed new radiotracers.

LifeSciences is also currently setting up a new dedicated research 18MeV cyclotron with the National Imaging Facility (NIF) and the University of Sydney, located at Camperdown. The associated capabilities will be the research and development of 11C and 18F new radiotracers for PET imaging.

It will be complemented by a pre-clinical imaging platform that is also currently setup in partnership with the Brain and Mind Research Institute (BMRI) and NIF.

Both facilities and associated capabilities will be operational in 2011.
