Australian Museum Eureka Prizes

Entries are now open for science's night of nights.

Dubbed the ‘Oscars of Australian Science’, the annual Australian Museum Eureka Prizes will be held in Sydney on 28 August, 2012.

ANSTO will be an integral part of the prizes, sponsoring an award category, the ‘ANSTO Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology.’

$10,000 is up for grabs for the individual or organisation that demonstrates the best new way of using technology to improve research outcomes.

Whether it’s making breakthroughs in medical industries or pioneering new developments in engineering, the field is wide open for smart thinking.

ANSTO CEO, Dr Adi Paterson said this award highlights how “the innovative application of technology forms a new way of viewing a problem that can lead to significant scientific breakthroughs.

ANSTO is at the forefront of applying nuclear technology and techniques to a diverse range of scientific problems including climate change, health and materials engineering. So it is quite fitting that our organisation gets behind sponsoring a tremendous award like this."

“We have many great scientists at ANSTO and Australia-wide who are among the best in their field in the world.

"By recognising and rewarding these great thinkers we can continue to foster new breakthroughs in science and technology that has tremendous benefit to all Australians,” Dr Paterson said.

The Eureka Prizes are awarded annually by the Australian Museum and recognise excellence in many fields including scientific research and innovation. It is highly competitive, with 18 prizes awarded in four categories:

  1. Research & Innovation
  2. Leadership
  3. School Science
  4. Science Journalism and Communication
