Radiochemist

Role at ANSTO

Paul’s role is in the development and provision of non-established radionuclides of interest to ANSTO and its collaborative partners.  These involve diagnostic and therapeutically relevant medical radionuclides as well as longer-lived isotopes for environmental and ecological applications.  Paul also has spent time supporting ANSTO’s Nuclear business units including ANSTO Health and ANM.

Expertise

Paul has over 18 years’ experience in radiochemistry including radiolabelling of small molecules, proteins and particles, as well as radionuclide development from reactor and cyclotron based targets.  His involvement with ANSTO began with a PhD project in which he contributed to the production of low and high specific activity 177Lu in Australia in 2003 and incorporating  it into novel small molecule radiotracers intended for cancer imaging. He has also been heavily involved in the 68Ge/ 68Ga radionuclide generator program culminating in the evaluation of a prototype in one of the largest cancer hospitals in the USA.  Paul has worked with a variety of radionuclides with emissions suitable for a broad range of medical and environmental applications.

Qualifications & Achievements

Paul holds a PhD in radiochemistry as well as a MSc in inorganic chemistry.
