Scientists and researchers specialising in materials engineering research at ANSTO have been published in a wide range of refereed journals over several years.
We are a major centre of materials engineering and expertise in Australia with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers.
Carbon nanotubes have been incorporated into a blend of deuterated biopolymers, allowing for electrical conductivity of the polymer film. These polymers have potential implications as scaffolds supporting regrowth of damaged tissues and electrical conductivity can promote the re-growth of nerve cells on similar materials.
Research using atomic scale computer simulations at ANSTO on accident tolerant nuclear fuels and cladding materials has the potential to design better components that can handle a ‘loss of coolant’ scenario in light water reactors (LWRs).
