Global futurist and thought leader on biotechnologies, health and innovation to present at ANSTO
The nandin Innovation Centre and Southern Sydney Innovation Network are excited to host Dr Tiffany Vora, Expert and Vice Chair Digital Biology and Medicine at Singularity University, for two presentations on Diversity and Inclusion and Biotech, along with an interview with DR KC Huang.
Biotech: Programming the Future of Life
Tiffany will explore how transformative innovation in the life sciences is combining with accelerating exponential technologies to radically impact the future of life, including exciting breakthroughs in health, food, the fight against climate change, and even remarkable advances with no clear use case (yet!). To experience how moonshot thinking can be enabled by biotech, participants will put on their engineering hats to envision how synthetic biology could be used to tackle humanity’s greatest challenges. Finally, Tiffany will help participants formulate—and wrestle with—big and important questions that arise thanks to the unprecedented power we are developing to impact life across individuals, species, and indeed planets.
DEI: How Women Will Program the Future of Life
Exponential technologies are breaking down the barriers between the living and nonliving worlds, a revolution that is impacting industries like health, space, food, and more. Women are prominent leaders in this disruption—but we still have more to do to maximize diversity and thereby fuel innovation. We will explore examples of women driving biotechnological innovation, and consider steps that we can take with our families and communities to further increase diversity in biotech.
Interview with Dr Vora and Dr Huang
In this conversation, Tiffany interviews Dr. KC Huang, Director of the Biophysics Program at Stanford University and a world-leading cellular biophysicist. KC will share insights into the systems and mindsets at play in the educational portion of the biotechnology workforce pipeline. Together they will identify insights that could be transferred to other industries and learnings that could be transferred in the other direction to support biotech and STEM.
