4 Decades of Q using small-angle neutron scattering at OPAL

Today for the first time, we produced fully analysed data sets in absolute intensity units across a momentum-transfer range of 1.8 x 104, from Q = 3.4 x 10-5 Å-1 up to 0.6 Å-1.
This was achieved using a total of 5 configurations on 2 instruments at OPAL:   three standard settings at λ = 5 Å on QUOKKA, MgF2 refractive lenses at 8 Å on QUOKKA, and a wavelength of λ = 4.7 Å on the new KOOKABURRA Ultra-small-angle neutron scattering instrument.

The USANS data, which are taken in slit geometry, have been "de-smeared" in the standard fashion.  In this case, the sample was a biopolymer hydrogel studied within ANSTO's Food Science project, and the data were taken by Marta Martinez-Sanz and collaborators, including instrument scientists on both instruments.
