Beauty in science at ANSTO

Beauty and science will join forces at ANSTO these school holidays. Equipped with a few simple ingredients, kids can transform every-day household items like bicarbonate soda and water into a bath fizzer.

Or for a more glamorous touch, some bees wax and cocoa butter can be used to make an all-natural lip gloss.

It is ANSTO’s first Cosmetic Chemistry workshop for children between the ages of 8 to 14 years. So head to ANSTO on Saturday 18th December and have fun while learning about science.

In a sneak preview, Charlotte and Bridget Mansfield from Engadine have already been busy at ANSTO making their own cosmetics. ”We had so much fun making our own soaps and bath fizzers. Now we’ve got great gifts to give away at Christmas and we get to have a cool spa day with some friends!”

As well as the cosmetic-making activities, the kids will get a peek into the exciting world of nuclear science and the technology that makes it happen.

The Cosmetic Chemistry workshop is the first of a series of Saturday Science events that will be held monthly in 2011. These activities are a great way to demonstrate that science is fun and plays a significant role in all of our lives.

Bookings for the Cosmetic Chemistry workshop are essential so keep the kids amused these school holidays.
