 Road worker

The Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) will start work to upgrade and improve the safety of the ‘seagull intersection’ of New Illawarra Road and Rutherford Avenue at Lucas Heights commencing the week of 14 November.

Roadside vegetation will be cut back on Monday evening, (14 November), with lane closures expected. RMS personnel will control traffic flow through the area. Lane closures will be between 9pm to 5am on New Illawarra Road. Night works involve tree trimming and vegetation removal. A  traffic control company and crew will be removing vegetation at the ANSTO site as well.

Work will continue over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening with signage installation and line marking.

The work is part of a series of planned enhancements to the intersection to improve safety. The measures include installation of additional warning and merging traffic signs, and lane dividers, along with realignment of the stop line marking.

Further detail and information regarding specific works and timings will be provided as they are confirmed.
