Message from ANSTO's CEO, Dr Adi Paterson, on the organisation's commitment to health, safety and the environment.

ANSTO is committed to delivering excellence in its Occupational Health Safety and Environmental (OHSE) performance, based on the organisation's core values.

The organisation strives to have a people-safe workplace, and believes no one should be harmed through our activities. We are all responsible for our safety, that of our colleagues and the public.

Environment and sustainability

ANSTO seeks to protect the environment. We are committed to effective stewardship and the sustainability of our operations and interactions with the local ecology.

We will minimise our environmental footprint by the sustainable use of resources and the prevention, minimisation and control of pollution. We are all responsible for environmental stewardship.

ANSTO is committed to environmental education and research and innovation in support of scientific understanding of the environment, policy advice and solutions for a sustainable planet.

ANSTO's actions

To meet our OHSE commitments wherever we undertake our activities, ANSTO maintains standards and systems and sets measurable objectives and targets. These are based on good practice, meeting and exceeding the requirements of relevant legislation and other requirements.

This policy and the associated processes, procedures, systems and standards and targets are continually improved using a blame-free learning approach to meet our commitments.

In consultation with our stakeholders, we will identify, assess, mitigate and manage our OHSE risks and environmental impacts where they cannot be eliminated.

Our actions will be timely, well-planned, and executed with the objective of achieving the intended result and minimising unintended consequences. We maintain a program of knowledge development and transfer, leadership, monitoring and auditing our performance.

We will report publicly on progress.

Dr Adi Paterson
