All you need to know about getting to ANSTO and what you'll find here.

Location and reception

• ANSTO is located at Lucas Heights, 40 km south west of the Sydney CBD.
• A typical car journey from the Sydney CBD will take around 50 minutes, or 40 from Sydney airport.
• ANSTO reception hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Ph: 02 9717 3111 (local) or + 61 2 9717 3111 (international).

Car and bus parking

• Ample parking is available for all visitors. The first bay is located to the left of the T-intersection off New Illawarra Road. The other is located 700 metres to the right outside reception.
• Allocated bus bays can be found at the entry to the Visitor's Centre.

Access

• Wheelchair access is available throughout the site.
• Families with small children and babies can also access the site; for security reasons however, prams and strollers are to be left inside the Visitor's Centre.

Other important facts

• You will need to bring identification with you. Go to Security arrangements and identification for details.
• If you are visiting ANSTO for business or research purposes, you will need to go to reception, located 700 metres along the road to the right of the main turnoff from New Illawarra Road.
• If you are coming to ANSTO for a booked tour, you will need to go to the Visitor's Centre. Turn left for parking before proceeding to the centre, which is clearly signposted.  
• If you are visiting AINSE or arriving at the motel or cafe, take the first road on your left and park in the available carparks. AINSE and the motel are clearly signposted; the cafe is the semi-domed building with outdoor seating.

Refreshments

A cafe, situated outside the site near the Visitor's Centre, serves hot and cold lunches, as well as cake and coffee. It is open weekdays from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Breakfast, lunch and beverages are served at the cafeteria. For large groups arriving at the cafe, it is advisable to inform cafe staff on 02 8525 4427 or 0434 152 810.

Accommodation

• A small, independently-managed motel, located on the ANSTO site, provides 20 rooms, including single and double rooms, as well as two larger self-contained units with kitchens.
• The motel features include: BBQ, games room, courtyard, dining room and pool.

• Other accommodation can be found at various locations throughout the Sutherland Shire.

Nearby centres

• Local shopping centres are located at Menai and Engadine, each are about a 10-15 minute drive from ANSTO. Miranda Westfield is a 25 minute drive.
