It is relatively easy to get to ANSTO via public transport, with City Rail providing a regular service to Sutherland. However, you will need to carefully plan your trip to save time.
By train
The most convenient railway station, in terms of proximity to ANSTO, is Sutherland station. Services from Sydney Central railway station to Sutherland run regularly. To get to Sutherland station from Sydney Central station, catch a train on the South Coast/Illawarra Line (the journey is approximately 40 minutes). Once you have arrived in Sutherland, you will need to catch the mini-bus or hire taxi (see details below).
If you are coming from Sydney airport, take the train to Wolli Creek and switch to the South Coast/Illawarra line (services are about every 10 minutes in the peak times, but are less frequent in non-peak times). If you are coming from Wollongong or the south coast, get off at Engadine or Sutherland.

By taxi
Taxis are abundant in the CBD and easily accessible outside the CBD. However, a taxi from the Sydney CBD to ANSTO can be costly (approximately $A50).
If you are coming by train to Sutherland station, taxis connect at Flora Street, Sutherland. The St George Taxi company can be contacted on 13 21 66 or you can book a cab online.
By bus
A direct mini-bus service operates between Sutherland station and Lucas Heights. It stops at Sutherland (bus bay 1, East Parade), the ANSTO motel and ANSTO reception/security. This service is mainly for visitors but staff may also use the service. The cost is $5 per single trip (no concessions).
