ANSTO runs recognised radiation safety training courses, as well as customised training programs delivered by practicing specialists.
Attending a standard radiation safety course may assist participants meet their licensing or registration requirements with their relevant regulatory authorities. The courses are also highly valuable to those wanting to improve their knowledge on radiation protection principles and practices. Please read the course outlines below for details and costs.
Course outlines
| Advanced Radiation Safety Officer – 5 days (PDF of course outline and costs) |
| Outcome: To be recognised as a Radiation Safety Officer across Australia. Audience: People who deal with radiation safety issues on a daily basis, or are required to be a Radiation Safety Officer with responsibility for a range of radiation sources, sealed or unsealed or ionising radiation services. |
| General Radiation Safety Officer – 3 days (PDF of course outline and costs) |
| Outcome: To be recognised as a Radiation Safety Officer across Australia. Audience: People who deal with radiation safety issues on an irregular to regular basis, and may work in various locations. |
| Industrial Radiation Safety Officer – 3 days (PDF of course outline and costs) |
| Outcome: To be recognised as a Radiation Safety Officer across Australia. Audience: People who deal with radiation safety issues on an irregular to regular basis, and may deal with safety issues regarding various industrial gauges or equipment |
| Radiation Safety for Laboratory Workers – 1 day (PDF of course outline and costs) |
| Outcome: To be aware of radiation responsibilities when working in a laboratory area with radionuclides/radioisotopes. Audience: People working in a radiation laboratory on an irregular to regular basis or similar environment. |
| Safety in laboratories with ionising radiation - 1 day (PDF of course outline and costs) |
| Outcome: To be an authorised operator in industry when installing and/or servicing devices. Audience: People using radioactive substances for installing and/or servicing devices containing a radioactive substance. |
| Safe use of Fixed Radiation Gauges – 1 day (PDF of course outline and costs) |
Outcome: To be an authorised operator of industrial radiation gauges. |
| Safe use of Portable Moisture/Density Gauges – 1 day (PDF of course outline and costs) |
| Outcome: To be an authorised operator of portable nuclear-type soil moisture and density gauges. Audience: People who may operate, work, install or service nuclear-type soil moisture and density gauges on an irregular or regular basis. |
| Safe use of X-ray Devices – 1 day (PDF of course outline and costs) |
| Outcome: To be an authorised operator for X-ray devices. Audience: People who operate or work around X-ray devices on an irregular to regular basis. The X-ray devices may be used in scientific and industrial settings. |
