Iain Sutton

Iain Sutton - DENIM2017

Co-founder of the DENIM conference, Iain currently leads technical coordination efforts across neutron instruments at the European Spallation Source.

An accomplished instrument designer and project manager, he studied Engineering and Critical Thinking at the Open University UK, while working full time at the world’s leading neutron research facility, the ILL in France.

A lifelong learner, he remains as passionate about understanding the reasons behind ‘Why?’ as the engineering underpinning ‘How?’

Ken Anderson

Ken Anderson - DENIM2017

Ken Andersen is Head of the Neutron Instruments Division at the European Spallation Source in Lund, Sweden. He was previously in charge of the Neutron Optics lab at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble, France and has worked as a neutron instrument scientist at both ILL and ISIS in the UK.

His research interests centre around the design and optimization of neutron instruments for both steady-state and pulsed neutron sources. He is an adjunct professor at the Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University, Denmark.

Margaret Elcombe

Margaret Elcombe Photo - DENIM

Dr Elcombe is a world-leading pioneer in the design, development, building and operation of neutron scattering instruments – which are used to measure and test material composition of common objects from food particles, to long-life batteries, railway tracks and aircraft wings.

For 41 years Dr Elcombe has worked at ANSTO, using neutron scattering and X-ray techniques to solve complex challenges across Australian industry.
