ANSTO Nuclear-based science benefitting all Australians
Research Hub

ANSTO's research capabilities, led by the OPAL nuclear research reactor and associated instruments provide access to users investigating areas as diverse as materials, life sciences, climate change and mining/engineering.

Gum Tree

Gumtree
is an open source project, providing a graphical user interface for instrument status and control, data acquisition and data reduction. Gumtree is written in Java on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform. Java provides operating sytem independence.

The rich client platform provides modularity via the plug-in paradigm and leverages third-party plug-ins. The rich client GUI paradigm for window management uses views and perspectives (collections of views). The perspectives allow the user to change between high level tasks such as data acquisition or data reduction. Customised screens provide a composite of all these tasks.

Gumtree provides a GUI with a common look and feel for all instruments. The product contains a client for the instrument control program SICS, a view to the histogram memory server, NeXus file reading, and a data reduction library and user interface. Gumtree is running on four (4) neutron beam instruments, Echidna, Wombat, Kowari and Quokka.
