ANSTO Nuclear-based science benefitting all Australians
Research Hub

ANSTO's research capabilities, led by the OPAL nuclear research reactor and associated instruments provide access to users investigating areas as diverse as materials, life sciences, climate change and mining/engineering.

SICS

The instrument control program used on the neutron beam instruments is SICS (SINQ Instrument Control System) from PSI. PSI and ANSTO began this collaboration in 2003.

SICS is run as a server, with Gumtree as the client.

The instrument control system coordinates control of devices including;

  1. Motion control
  2. Sample environment
  3. Data acquisition (histogram memory)
  4. Data archiving in the NeXus format

SICS is written in C by Mark Koennecke.

SICS is deployed on Linux running on an x86-64 processor.
