In mid 2007, as part of a collaboration with the New Zealand instititions, Industrial Research Limited and HTS-110, a novel high-Tc superconducting 5T magnet will become available for use. A solidworks image of the magnet, with dimensions is shown below.

There are windows to allow the neutrons to pass in the axial or transverse direction. The sample is mounted in a closed cycle cryofurnace which allows the temperature to be varied from 6K to 800K.

An Oxford Instruments Spectromag horizontal superconducting magnet is available for use on SANS. The peak field is 10T at 4.2K and 11T at 2.2K. The sample mounts on either a sample stick 1.5K to 300K or an Oxford Instruments 3He one-shot fridge 0.3K to 80K.

A Bruker B-EC1 resistive magnet with a peak field of 1.1Tesla with a 50mm opening between the pole pieces is now available for use on Platypus.

This magnet has been designed to be used in conjugation with the new polarisation system on Platypus. Samples are usually mounted in the new 10K-300K cryocooler CF-6.
