BST vertical uniaxial press
Ancillary code: P-1

Echidna, Wombat

The "Big Squishy Thing" (BST) uniaxial press for in-situ powder diffraction is shown. This device allows the structural analysis of crystalline materials under loads up to 20 tonnes. The BST can also be used in conjunction with the BHST furnace to achieve both vertical loads and elevated temperatures.

The BST was funded and built by Dr Erich Kisi's group at Newcastle University, who are also major users of the press.

100kN Load Frame for Strain Scanning

Ancillary code: P-2

Kowari

A 100kN load frame, manufactured by Instron, for tension, compression and fatigue testing is available for use on the Kowari Strain Scanner. This load frame can fatigue samples at rates of up to 10Hz. A high temperature furnace (1200C) is under construction.
