ANSTO's research capabilities, led by the OPAL nuclear research reactor and associated instruments provide access to users investigating areas as diverse as materials, life sciences, climate change and mining/engineering.

Actions from user feedback

 

We have provided a clearer acknowledgement statement for use in papers resulting from work using our facilities: "We acknowledge the support of the Bragg Institute, Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, in providing the neutron research facilities used in this work." (October 2011)

 

We have acquired a new low-temperature cryostat, capable of reaching 2K, to work in conjunction with our 7.4T vertical-field cryomagnet (VM-1) (May 2011)

 

Statistics on proposal success rates are now published on the Web (September 2010)

 

A second glovebox (for argon loading, as opposed to helium) has been procured and installed in the Neutron Guide Hall, close to ECHIDNA and WOMBAT (August 2010)

 

ANSTO's Security counter is now open 8.30 - 12.00 and 14.00 - 16.30 every business day, i.e. 5 days per week (January 2010)

 

7 day per week Express Minibus Service, for our users, between Sutherland Railway Station and ANSTO commenced (October 2009)

 


 

A glovebox, for sample loading of solid samples, has been procured and installed in the Neutron Guide Hall, close to ECHIDNA and WOMBAT (June 2009)

 

A printer for users (connected to Guestnet) has been installed on the East side of the Neutron Guide Hall, for users of ECHIDNA, WOMBAT, KOWARI and KOALA.  Another printer for the West side of the Neutron Guide Hall, for users of PLATYPUS, QUOKKA and TAIPAN, is on order (June 2009)

 

Wireless internet now works in all of the Bragg Institute buildings for our users. We had some issues with it not working in evenings, but it now works 24/7 (May 2009)

 

We have installed TVs in the OPAL cafeteria area, and have placed an order for satellite TV, as is common at other user facilities like the Australian Synchrotron (May 2009)

 

We have started to provide dried and frozen meals/snacks in the meal room adjacent to the Neutron Guide Hall, for purchase by users (March 2009)

 

Wireless internet access provided in Stevens Hall (July 2008)

 

We have acquired an ultrasonic homogenisor for the preparation labs, so that small-angle scattering samples can be suspended more easily (May 2008)

 


 

New webpage giving deadlines at other neutron scattering facilities around the world (April 2008)

 

Dedicated visitor parking has been marked out close to both the Bragg Institute Building and the Neutron Guide Hall, in preparation for the start of the user program at OPAL (September 2006)
