ANSTO Nuclear-based science benefitting all Australians
Research Hub

ANSTO's research capabilities, led by the OPAL nuclear research reactor and associated instruments provide access to users investigating areas as diverse as materials, life sciences, climate change and mining/engineering.

Vision and Mission

ANSTO Life Sciences is one of four research divisions at ANSTO. This division consists of a multi-disciplinary group of chemists, radiochemists, biologists, pharmacologists and imaging specialists.

ANSTO Life Sciences operates in spheres of activity, with our teams using a range of technology platforms to investigate intractable biological issues such as disease pathophysiology and recovery, understanding biological processes and characterising properties of living matter.

Our Vision is to use and bring to bear the unique characteristics of nuclear technologies to probe the fundamental properties of living matter.

Our Mission is to enable innovative research, contribute to a more complete approach to the life sciences which enables practical applications in many areas, including health.

Two themes drive our research programme:

  1. The impact of environment on health
  2. The interactions of radiation with living matter
