Mrs Connie Banos
Role at ANSTO
Connie coordinates the operations of ANSTO’s gamma irradiation service and a traceable dosimeter supply & measurement and calibration service to ANSTO customers, along with maintaining the quality system associated with these services.
Before joining ANSTO in 1983, Connie worked as a TAFE Technical Officer and Demonstrator in Biological Sciences (Haematology, Biochemistry/Chemistry, Analytical Instrumentation, Microbiology, Photography & Radiology, & Biology). Prior to this Connie was a Pathology Technical Officer at Prince of Wales Hospital in Haematology, Biochemistry & Blood Banking.
Research interests and areas of expertise
Connie has been involved in a variety of research work – radiation resistance of micro-organisms, detection methods in food irradiation (including crustaceans, citrus, herbs & spices), irradiation effects of numerous produce & products, Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) for Queensland fruit fly, IAEA coordinated research on disinfestation of fruit and vegetable produce for phytosanitary purposes, radiation stability& degradation studies of plastics, and plant mutation studies.
