Ryan Middleton

Role at ANSTO

Ryan’s role is to build, enhance and support the ANSTO LifeSciences molecular Bio-analytics' capabilities, in addition to studying the impact of radiation on living matter.

Ryan obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Sydney with a focus on Animal Genetics. He then went on to obtain his PhD from the University of Sydney and Johnson & Johnson Research with his research concentrating on the development and use of a genetic screen to identify Human MicroRNA targets.

Research interests and areas of expertise

Ryan is interested in the impact of radiation from medical and environmental sources, with a particular focus on its effects on mitochondria and the gut microbiome. His areas of expertise include molecular cloning, polymerase chain reaction, RNA interference, animal genetics, gene expression, cell culture and transfection.

Qualifications & Achievements

BScAgr, First Class Honours, University of Sydney (2002)
PhD, Johnson and Johnson Research and University of Sydney (2008)
