David Child is an analytical chemist, having graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney with a B. App.Sc (Hons) in chemistry.

He has worked as part of the Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Chemistry team since 1997 and has been involved in the development and implementation of AMS analysis techniques to answer in geomorphological investigations using both cosmogenic isotopes and nuclear fallout isotopes and in the provision of nuclear safeguards-and forensics capabilities for Australian Defence and Intelligence agencies.

His current research focus is on examination of the radioactive fallout signatures in the Southern Hemisphere, and in particular from the British nuclear weapon test in Australia, and to explore the use of this signature as a time marker in the dating of contemporary sedimentary environmental archives.
