Qualifications & Achievements
Henk is a geoscientist and graduated from the VU University in Amsterdam with a BSc. in Physical Geography (1984), an MSc in Quaternary Geology and Lowland genesis (1988) and from the University of Groningen with a PhD in Applied Physics in 1992.
During his career at ANSTO he has participated in collaborative research in Antarctica, SE Asia, Australasia and the Eastern Pacific. Henk was appointed Adjunct Professor of Quaternary Science at the University of Technology Sydney (2002), and is a Past President of the Australasian Quaternary Association. He is currently an Adjunct Professor in the School of Culture, History and Language, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University.
Late 2008 Henk was awarded an honorary fellowship by the Australian Institute for Nuclear Science and Engineering for his services to the Institute in the area of education and research. Henk has been a board member of the Federation of Australian Science and Technology Societies from 2008 until 2011.
At present Henk is the Leader of the Nuclear Methods in Earth Systems Project and takes part in research into tracing human impacts. He was appointed a Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences visiting Professor in 2011. This program gives outstanding scientific researchers working outside the Netherlands the opportunity to make significant contributions to research in the Netherlands.
