Staff Profile

Role at ANSTO

Frank is leading the neutron beam instruments and major capital projects group at the Bragg Institute. This group of ~40 scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative staff is responsible for delivering seven new neutron instruments and several other major instrumentation projects over the coming years with a budget of $60 M.

Before joining the Bragg Institute / ANSTO in 2007, Frank spent most of his career as senior scientist in major US research facilities (Argonne and Oak Ridge National Laboratories). He is now a professorial fellow of the University of New South Wales, Sydney and his science group is working on novel spintronic materials.

Qualifications & Achievements

  • Published more than 90 refereed research articles in international journals & various book chapters/review articles about polarized neutrons, magnetic scattering and spallation neutron sources.
  • Presented more than 50 invited lectures at international conferences/workshops and seminars/colloquia.
  • Organized several international workshops/conferences/schools in the areas of polarized & high-field neutron scattering.
  • Ph.D. in Physics, University of Goettingen, Germany (1993).
