Dr Kia Wallwork
Staff Profile
Role at ANSTO
Kia joined the IER team in June 2013, her primary responsibilities include providing operational support and strategic leadership to the Institute for Environmental Research. Kia’s expertise includes project management and the application of synchrotron powder diffraction; Kia was responsible for the construction and operation of the Australian Synchrotron powder diffraction beamline from 2005 to 2011.
In 2003 Kia received a PhD from Flinders University of South Australia, having applied synchrotron powder diffraction to the elucidation of the crystal structures of various minerals. Upon completing her PhD, Kia was appointed as an Australian Synchrotron Research Program Fellow, based in the Bragg Institute at ANSTO. During this post-doctoral period she studied the structure and properties of a range of different functional materials, including potential radioactive waste forms, and metal oxides with electronic and magnetic properties.
Expertise
Project management, Synchrotron beamline instrumentation, X-ray scattering techniques, powder diffraction.
