Role at ANSTO

 

Mr Werczynski is an environmental physicist in the Isotopes in Climate and Atmosphere Program of the ANSTO Institute for Environmental Research (IER). Sylvester graduated with a Masters of Applied Geophysics Degree from the University of Mining and Metallurgy, Krakow, Poland in 1986.

 

Since joining ANSTO in 2001 Mr Werczynski has developed expertise in field measurement techniques and logistics in the atmosphere and subsurface gas transport and with analytical techniques related to radon and thoron and their progeny. His interests and work are focused on applications of naturally occurring radionuclide tracers for transport processes in the lower atmosphere at different spatial and temporal scales. He manages the runnning and continuous development of the radon analytical laboratory and an international network of radon detectors in support of internationally recognised scientific research.
