Community Tour - July 2013
Dear Tour Team
School holiday tour - February, 2013
"Dear Rod,
My parents and I were very impressed by Robin Davis' tour of the Lucas Heights complex today. There were so many things that had puzzled me for so long that were answered today. We went overtime because of his generosity and preparedness to answer questions from left field. Robin was also very considerate of my father's mobility issues. I hope that ANSTO will continue to offer such high quality tours conducted by a scientist with such an impressive grasp of the organisation's work and the technology at its disposal. It will now be my son Sam's turn to field further questions!
With our sincere thanks,"

School holiday tour - February, 2013
"Just a quick email to thank Bridget and others at the Discovery Centre for the tour of OPAL today. I took my 9 year old son and we have been regaling our family with fascinating stories all afternoon! My son has to do a speech on occupations for school and he has chosen nuclear scientist, greatly inspired by what he heard today. Thank you for answering all our questions and helping us learn about the important work that happens at ANSTO. A great learning experience for young and old alike!"

School tour - February, 2013
"Hello Marian
Thank you for sending the notes and feedback from the questions throughout the presentation. I will use this for further revision of content and concepts.
I would like to thank you on behalf of the students and myself. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have taken away with them a passion for science (in particular nuclear science, chemistry and Physics).
Many discussions on our journey home included possible future study options at University and career choices. So wonderful to see such enthusiasm for science. This was mainly due to your excellent presentation and talk throughout the morning.
Thank you again and hope to see you soon
Sincerely,"

School holiday tour - February 9, 2012
"The tour of ANSTO was definitely one of the highlights of our summer holidays.
Thank-you so much for organising and delivering such an informative and inspiring educational session and tour. Everything from the ANSTO cafe, the information sheet, written directions , the tasty cookies and the tour itself were extremely well organised and clear. The periodic tables have been pinned up and have become a regular point of conversation. As travellers from Melbourne, your attention to detail and warm welcome was greatly appreciated.
The visit left us feeling extremely proud of the facility, the staff, the international achievements and the continuing research into a myriad of significant areas of interest."

Water rockets workshop - January 16, 2012
"I would like to thank the staff in respect to last Thursdays workshop. My granddaughter loved the day. I enjoyed watching the kids expressions as the water rockets were being constructed and eventually testing their rockets.
Just recently we were discussing what subjects she does not like. Science was one of them. I asked her on the way home “Did you enjoy the day?” She smiled and said ‘Yes’. I then said “That was science”. Her reply was ”I like science”.

Easter egg workshop - April 16, 2012
"Just wanted to say thanks to all involved in organising and running the Easter Egg workshop last week. The staff involved interacted with the kids extremely well, and there was a great variety of experiments/experiences for the kids. My son and his friend had a wonderful time! "

Cosmetic chemistry workshop - May 12, 2012
“I wish to say a huge thankyou and comment on a wonderful course my children attended on Saturday at ANSTO - the cosmetic chemistry workshop for kids. The kids were delighted to wear lab coats and be treated like special visitors. They learnt so much and were thrilled with the take home products to give as gifts, the learning experience was wonderful and they have passed on what they learnt to many adults and other children we have seen since Saturday. Never the less we will be back in the school holidays to participated in a tour of ansto with the family and to participate in the water rocket workshop - we have spread the word and have a few extra friends coming along as well. Thank you again for providing a wonderful event to the community and for the care and dedication taken to make the event a success”

Fathers' Day workshop - September 1, 2012
"It was my son’s first workshop here and he had a wonderful time. The instructions on what to do were clear, the kids were welcomed and made to feel comfortable in their environment and the supervision was excellent. He bought a friend and they both really enjoyed themselves as well as learning about Science.
Overall a wonderful experience and well done to the team that worked on Saturday.
I have prior work experience in interactive science centres and thought that the workshop on Saturday was excellent."

Special Guest Tour: Institute of Instrumentation, Control and Automation - September 6, 2012
The IICA Sydney Branch organised a Members Only ANSTO Site Tour on Thursday September 6th, 2012. Feedback from the tour was outstanding and our members who participated were highly impressed with the event.
There tends to be so much negative publicity about all things ‘radioactive’ - from the Olympic Dam Mine Project (Uranium) postponement to the dangers of nuclear power stations, and nuclear waste dumping, that we tend to forget all the great work that is being done using radioactive material at ANSTO.
Our ANSTO tour guides Marian Jones, with the technical assistance of Luis Rudenas, were simply outstanding. Marian Jones is an ex-teacher with a BSc and has a passion for projects undertaken at ANSTO, and all things nuclear. Marian’s knowledge and explanation of the various processes were unparalleled. One of our IICA Committee Members, Luis Rudenas, who is a Projects Engineer at ANSTO, helped with organising the tour and ensured that it was tailored specifically to our industry interests. Luis also assisted Marion with some of the instrumentation and control topics.
We explored medical treatments for the various cancers (Iodine-131, Ytrrium-90, Molybdenum-99, and others), we were shown how radiation is used to detect medical problems, how these nuclear technologies can be used in environmental protection, carbon dating, and much more. It was also interesting to understand (if that is possible!) the many global research projects that are going on in the neutron beam hall, and its associated research centre.
All in all a fascinating site visit, thanks to ANSTO for a great tour.

Kitchen Kapers workshop - October 3, 2012
I would like to commend you and your staff on the way in which you organised the event, the content in the event, and the cost of the event.
I was very impressed with the booking process and the organisation on the day. The way in which the staff handled the children was exemplary! The content of the learning was well suited to the children, fun and challenging. The cost was sooooooooo cheap for the amount of effort for the event.
I was extremely impressed and will be highly recommending it to everyone I know. Thank you for all your hard work.
