Policies, roles and guidelines

Publications Policy

Each institution nominates its own ANSTO Publication Online (APO) Delegates. The nominated delegate or executive or leading ANSTO authors are responsible for submission to ANSTO Publications Online. They are encouraged to become familiar with ANSTO's Publication Policy (AP-2561 Research Publications in the Public Domain and Related Data) before submitting publications to ANSTO Publications Online.

Publications can only be submitted if:

  • Approval to publish has been obtained, and
  • The item has been published (except where item is an ANSTO publication)

Submission requirements

In order to maintain consistency and quality control, submission is required in following format:

File size requirements

The recommended file size for publications being uploaded into ANSTO Publications Online is 5 MB, as larger files may cause problems when users open the file due to variances in local configurations and network speed. If a file exceeds this size please consider splitting into chapters or sections, appropriately named, and upload the file using the 'this title has more than one file' function.

File naming requirements

To ensure consistency and ease of recognition of a publication, please name files as follows:

Last name of first-named author (in CAPS), followed by key words from title in the order in which they appear in the title (recommended max = 6 key words), followed by date in format: YYYYMM.

For example: SMITH_Nuclear_Power_Australia_2007_12.doc

Roles

The role of leading ANSTO author is providing publications details to the nominated delegate. The nominated delegates regularly submit publications to ANSTO Publications Online, in order to meet KPI reporting requirements and performance appraisals, and in accordance with the Publication Policy.

Note: Various Institutes have different procedures in place to manage publication workflow. Please be sure to check with your institute.

The Library confirms that a publication has appeared (e.g. via the URL provided, a search or by way of it being placed for public access in ANSTO's publication repository).  Then the library validates bibliographic data for consistency (e.g. format of author name) and releases bibliographic data so that it becomes accessible within and outside ANSTO via ANSTO's website. If the copyright transfer agreement does not provide sufficient information, the Library can direct authors to the appropriate person to advise on publishers' copyright policies.
