2. Training

To ensure your safety while you are working at the Bragg Institute and inform you on relevant ANSTO procedures you will be required to undertake a training program before and upon your arrival at the Bragg Institute. This training is valid for 2 years.

The training program consists of on-line training content relating to safety and operational topics with short assessments and onsite induction. The training must be completed successfully before you arrive. (Link will be sent to you after reception of your completed security papers). The following on-line training modules are available on the Bragg Institute Customer Portal:

  • Working Arrangements at ANSTO          Mandatory (takes 20-30 min; 4 exam questions)
  • Emergency Response                             Mandatory (takes 20-30 min; 7 exam questions)
  • Radiation Safety                                      Mandatory (takes 30-40 min; 8 exam questions)
  • General Safety at the Bragg Institute      Mandatory (takes 20-30 min; 4 exam questions)

The following training will be conducted on arrival:

NOTE that on arrival you will have to follow on-site induction training and sign a user agreement before you will get access to the neutron-guide hall.

3. Scientists participating in experiment (experimentalists)

If you are the principal experimenter you are requested to check that all scientists involved in your experiment have a security pass and have been declared at least 48 hours in advance. Failure to do so may result in refusal of entry for undeclared persons. Fill out the Bragg Institute Visitor form for each member of your party.

4. Organising your samples and experimental needs

Samples must be added to your proposal via the Bragg Institute Customer Portal 6 weeks in advance. This allows time for an ANSTO approved MSDS to be created if none exists.

Inquiries about the National Deuteration Facility should be directed to Dr. Peter Holden.

Transporting samples to and from the Bragg Institute:

All samples are to be shipped to your Local Contact. Please ensure you have met all state/country and carrier/airline requirements for the transport and import/export of samples and reagents.

All laboratory work is subject to risk assessments submitted in advance.

5. For Foreigners:

  • Arrange your Business Visa

You cannot access ANSTO if you are travelling on a tourist visa. You can easily apply online for a business visa through the Australian Electronic Travel Agency (ETA)

Temporary visitors are generally not covered by Medicare - the public health care system in Australia - unless there is a reciprocal health care agreement between Australia and your country. It is therefore essential to have adequate medical insurance during your visit to ANSTO because medical treatment in Australia can be very expensive.

6. Arrange travel and accommodation:

  • People from an AINSE Member Institution should arrange their travel and accommodation with AINSE
  • Travel to ANSTO

If you have arranged accommodation at the ANSTO motel (also referred to as Steven's Hall) an internet connection can be arranged by filling in the following form.
