The Access to Major Research Facilities Program (AMRFP) supports access by Australian researchers from industry, private and public research organisations and universities to major international research facilities that are not available in Australia or to attend overseas strategic planning meetings to secure access to a major research facility.
AMRFP is administered by ANSTO and is proudly supported by the International Science Linkages (ISL) program. The ISL program supports Australian scientists, from both the public and private sectors, to collaborate with international partners on leading edge science and technology (S&T) in order to contribute to Australia's economic, social and environmental wellbeing.
AMRFP support is limited to the facilities listed in the linked table.
Access to international synchrotron facilities is obtained through the International Synchrotron Access Program (ISAP) which is administered by the Australian Synchrotron (AS).
This program primarily supports travel where time has been granted on an overseas major facility following peer review. Collaboration visits will not be supported unless time has already been granted at an eligible facility.
Funding rounds and access mechanisms
Two six-month funding rounds are held each year (in Jan-Jun and Jul-Dec). In each round:
AM-1: Applications that meet the application conditions are approved and funded in chronological order of receipt until a set portion of the funds for a funding round have been committed. Approximately 5/6 of the total funds for a round are devoted to AM-1.
AM-2: Applications that meet the application conditions (including funding) that are received after the funds for the funding round (AM-1) have been committed, are ranked and approved at the end of the round until the total remaining funds for the round and unused funds from previous rounds are committed. Key dates are 1 May for Jan-Jun and 1 Nov for Jul-Dec. Approximately 1/6 of the total funds for a round are devoted to AM-2. Applications are ranked according to the following criteria:

Reporting requirements
Two reports are required for each funded trip. The 30 day report provides statistics used to demonstrate that the program is contributing to the objectives of the ISL Program. The 12 month report is a scientific experimental report.
The reports must be electronically submitted, and the forms can be downloaded here:
30 day report. To be submitted within 30 days of the conclusion of the funded travel. Download (Word)
12 month report. To be submitted 1 year after the funded travel. Download (Word)
