Program format

The program is two years in duration and consists of two phases:

Year 1: Induction, eight-month rotational placement aligned with the graduate's degree and group professional development. A four-month rotational placement is designed to: Increase the graduate's knowledge of ANSTO and develop networks in an area that is not directly aligned to their degree.

Year 2: Customised placements aligned to the graduate's degree and individual development plans focused on: ANSTO career development, technical development and professional development.

The induction process

Upon being accepted into the program, graduates take part in an induction program that will orientate them and provide opportunities including:

  • Learning about ANSTO, including getting to know its divisions and institutes
  • Meet and get to know your peers and senior leaders
  • Business and Soft skills training and;
  • Find out more about what the Graduate Development Program has to offer!.

Rotations

The intent of the rotation program is to provide experience in a range of disciplines and to work with senior industry experts. The first year of the Graduate Development Program involves two rotations within ANSTO. The first rotation is of eight-month duration and is aligned to the graduate's area of interest and degree discipline. The second rotation is of four-month duration and is aimed at increasing the graduate's knowledge of ANSTO's broader operations while developing networks and skills outside of their discipline.

In the second year, the graduate's development will focus on an ongoing career at ANSTO. Through targeted individual development, graduates will refine their technical and business skills to help ANSTO meet its current and future business needs.

Mentor and buddy program

As part of the Graduate Development Program, ANSTO offers a mentor and buddy program. The mentor program provides support from an experienced member of the ANSTO team to help graduates establish and achieve their career goals, while the buddy program offers peer support to help graduates make a successful transition to their new work environment.

The assigned buddy maintains regular contact with graduates throughout the initial months of the program to ensure that they are settling in and enjoying their time with ANSTO.
