Security requirements

• When visiting ANSTO, you will need to provide your contact details, licence (or other identification) number and photo identification. Please ensure you have these with you.
• For security reasons, visitors are not able to take any unauthorised photographic devices, including mobile phones, on site.
• Laptops and memory sticks may be taken on site but need to be registered with reception staff on arrival.
• For journalists and media: cameras are permitted but there are specific guidelines to which you need to adhere.
• Lockers are available at reception for visitor use.

Find us

• ANSTO is located at Lucas Heights, 40 km south of the Sydney CBD, and can be referenced in Sydney street directories, Whereis or Google maps
• A typical car journey from the CBD will take approximately 45 minutes; a drive from the airport is approximately 30 minutes.

Arriving at ANSTO

• If you are meeting with ANSTO staff, you will need to go to Reception. Once you have taken the turn off from New Illawarra Road, follow the road to the top of the rise where the road will veer to the right. Proceed along this road until you see the Reception and Security complex. Park in the carpark on your left and enter Reception.
• If you are coming on an ANSTO tour, once you have taken the turn off from New Illawarra Road , take the first road on your left and park in the available carparks. Proceed to the Visitor Centre which is a green building clearly signposted.

Visitor Centre

• For bus groups, once you have taken the turn off from New Illawarra Road, proceed directly ahead over the traffic calmers. The Visitor Centre (a green building) will be on your right. Allocated bus bays are available at the entry to the building.
• If you are visiting AINSE or arriving at the motel or the cafeteria, once you have taken the turn off from New Illawarra Road, take the first road on your left and park in the available carparks. AINSE and the motel are clearly signposted; the cafeteria is the semi-domed building with outdoor seating.

Parking

• Ample parking is available for all visitors. Allocated bus bays can be found at the Visitor Centre.

Access for all visitors

• Wheelchair access is available throughout the site.
• Families with small children and babies can also access the site; for security reasons however, prams and strollers are to be left inside the education and tour centre.

Public transport

• The closest stations to ANSTO are Sutherland or Engadine stations both on the Illawarra Line. From the Sydney CBD, this train journey is approximately 30 - 40 minutes long; from Wollongong, it is a 50 minute trip.
• Taxis connect at Flora Street, Sutherland and at Station Street, Engadine. A drive from these stations to ANSTO is approximately 15 minutes.
• A bus leaves from Sutherland Station at 7.55 am only and arrives at ANSTO at approximately 8.25 am. This bus is mainly for staff but visitors may also use this service. A bus leaves the ANSTO site for Sutherland Station at approximately 4.50 pm.

Airport

• Taxis are the most convenient way to travel to ANSTO from Sydney airport. The drive is approximately 30 minutes.
• Trains are available from Sydney airport to Wolli Creek. Change trains at Wolli Creek for Sutherland Station (on the Illawarra line).
• Taxis connect at Flora Street, Sutherland. A drive from Sutherland Station to ANSTO is approximately 15 minutes.

ANSTO tours

• All members of the public are welcome to attend free ANSTO tours. Tours are available on two Saturdays of every month or other days for groups of twelve or more. For more information, go to ANSTO tours.

Cafe

ANSTO's Cafe

• A cafeteria is available on weekdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Breakfast, lunch and beverages are served at the cafeteria. For large groups arriving at the cafeteria, it is advisable to inform cafeteria staff on + 61 2 8525 4427 or 0434 152 810.

Accomodation

• A small independently managed motel, located outside the site, provides a variety of rooms starting from $75 per night. The motel has an NRMA three star rating.

Nearby centres

• Local shopping centres are located at Menai and Engadine, each are about a 10-15 minute drive from ANSTO. Miranda Westfield is a 25 minute drive.
