Research

ANSTO has a key role in undertaking and facilitating Australian research in nuclear science and technology, through world-class researchers and facilities.

About one-third of ANSTO's staff are involved in research. Many others play active roles developing and maintaining the organisation's research facilities, and working with users who have access to those facilities. ANSTO's research program is managed to build strong effective relationships between researchers, end-users and the community, through strategic collaborations.

The nature of ANSTO's research is focused on a targeted range of applications of nuclear science and technology, including:

  • capabilities in neutron and X-ray scattering
  • climate and water related environmental research
  • materials engineering applications
  • radiopharmaceuticals and imaging development
