Dr Alice Klapproth received her PhD from the University of Goettingen (Germany) as a member of the Department of Crystallography. She worked together with Professor Dr W. F. Kuhs on crystal structure analysis of gas hydrates (clathrates). Moreover, their chemical physics provides excellent testing grounds for the understanding of gas-water as well as of water-water interactions. Diffraction methods with neutron and synchrotron radiation were a main part of her work. Moreover they used cryo field-emission scanning electron microscopy to investigate the microstructure of gas hydrates. After her PhD her main research at the Centre of Geosciences at the University of Goettingen in the Department of Crystallography was the formation and microstructure of gas hydrates in porous material, like sediments.
Alice's research interests include nucleation and growth study of gas hydrates as well as the mechanisms of hydrate inhibition with neutron scattering techniques.
Qualifications:
- Experience with special sample environments like cryostats; self constructed cooling cells and high-pressure cells.
- Conducting experiments on the Field-Emission Cryo Scanning Electron Microscope at the University of Goettingen.
- Conducting experiments on the Microfocus-Raman Spectrometer at the University of Goettingen.
- Conducting experiments on the Synchrotron Radiation Facility at DESY, Hamburg, Germany as well as at the ESRF in Grenoble /France and at the High Flux Neutron Facility at Institute Laue-Langevin in Grenoble/France.
