Tony is currently responsible for developing an open source software framework, code named GumTree, as a graphical front-end for the Neutron Beam Instruments Project for the OPAL reactor.

Tony's computing expertise includes Java and Eclipse

Tony Lam completed his Master of Optoelectronics / Photonics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney in 2003. Tony has also degrees in Computer Engineering (Hons) and Physics at UNSW. For his undergraduate thesis, he joined the Automated Astrophysical Site-Testing InterNational Observatory (AASTINO) Project and provided software to the remote-control system located at the high Antarctic plateau (Dome C). He received industrial training at both CSIRO and the semiconductor product sector of Motorola.

Qualifications and achievements:

  • Lead the development of the GumTree Project, which has won the Best Open Source RCP Application Award from the Eclipse Foundation (2006)
  • Citizen of the Year Achievement Award from Hurstville City Council (2007)
  • Joined the Automated Astrophysical Site-Testing InterNational Observatory (AASTINO) Project to provide software to the remote-control system located at the high Antarctic plateau, Dome C (2002)
  • Master of Optoelectronics / Photonics (2003), Bachelor of Computer Engineering, and Bachelor of Physics at the University of New South Wales
