Mr Stewart Pullen is a design engineer who works within the sample environment group developing new equipment based upon the needs of the scientists. His key role is to design new and innovative sample environment equipment at the request of the scientific staff and facilitate manufacture and commissioning to meet their specifications.
Stewart started working with the Bragg Institute on a joint project with the University of Western Sydney developing the Rapid Heat-Quench Cell (RHQC) for the small angle neutron scattering instrument and was contracted in 2007 to complete the project. The RHQC was a finalist in this year’s Engineering Excellence Awards (2008) run by engineers Australia Sydney Division, in the category on innovations and inventions.
In addition he has designed several pieces of equipment including solid liquid cells, Poiseuille shear cells, robotic sample changer, vacuum vessels and aluminium cuvettes. He has also provided support in the design of software for the remote operation of the sample environments.
