All samples and reagents brought into the Bragg Institute must be appropriately labelled, tracked while in the facility and cleared before leaving. To facilitate this a barcoded label system has been implemented.
The steps involved are:
- Entering sample/reagent details in your proposal
- During the preparation of your proposal on the Bragg Institute Customer Portal you must to enter the details of your samples and any reagents you are planning to bring.
- If you plan to bring additional samples with you, these must be added to the sample list on your proposal
- More information is available here.
- Transporting your samples to the Bragg Institute
- Please ensure that all transport of samples and reagents to the Bragg Institute conforms with all relevent state/country and carrier/airline requirements.
- The information on the transportation page is for general guidance only.
- You must confirm transport requirements with the importing/exporting countries and carriers/airlines.
- Particular care should be taken with ensuring appropriate approvals and permits are obtained for transporting biological material, hazardous substances or deuterium oxide and deuterated samples.
- Failure to comply with all transport requirements may result in samples being returned or destroyed by Customs or in prosecution under the Australian Customs Act.
- When you arrive at the Bragg Institute
- During your induction training you will be shown how to print the barcoded labels (generated from your proposal) for your samples and reagents.
- All samples and reagents should be labelled on arrival but must be labelled after use in a neutron beam experiment.
- When you leave the Bragg Institute
- All samples that have been used in a neutron beam experiment must be cleared by a health physics surveyor for radioactive contamination (neutron activation of samples) before they leave the facility.
- Instruction on how to prepare your samples for clearance will be given during your induction. Sample clearance will be available every week day
- If you are unable to take your samples with you when you leave they will be stored for you to collect on your next visit
- If you do not wish to take your samples with you, contact the Lab Manager in advance to arrange appropriate disposal.
- Transporting your samples from the Bragg Institute
- If you wish to return your samples to your home institution or take them with you, you must ensure that the transportation conforms with all relevent state/country and carrier/airline requirements.
- More information is available on the transportation page.
- A certified shipper is available for dangerous goods packing and shipment by prior arrangement.
- Packaging materials are not supplied.
- You must arrange courier or postage.
- If you are returning to the Bragg Institute for a schedule experiment and wish to store your samples at the Bragg Institute, please contact the Lab Manager in advance to find out if we can accomodate this.
