Ionising radiation physics

The Ionising Radiation Physics Group carries out fundamental research activities on the measurement science of radiation, particles and neutrons. It delivers a high level of measurement science and technology required for nuclear power, nuclear medicine and research institutes.

The group's major responsibility is to develop and maintain the Australian Primary and Secondary Standards for the measurement of activity, the Becquerel. The group provides traceable and accurate activity measurement standards for use in the radiopharmaceutical industry, hospital, trade and government to enable compliance with legislation, underpin safe nuclear medicine treatment and ensure reliability of nuclear power applications. The internationally equivalent activity standards provided by the group ensure barrier-free trade of radiopharmaceuticals.
