What assurances can be given to ensure that the correct safety procedures are in place in event of an emergency? 

A high level of emergency planning and preparedness is in place at ANSTO to cope with all potential radiological and non-radiological events.  These plans are agreed by the ANSTO Local Liaison Working Party, which includes representatives of the NSW Police, NSW Fire Brigade, Ambulance Service of NSW, the NSW State Emergency Service and the Sutherland Shire Council.  ANSTO's internal response plan is here.  The external response plan covering off-site response, which was developed by the NSW Government, is here.
