Dr Christine Rehm

Dr Christine Rehm is instrument scientist for the KOOKABURRA ultra-small angle neutron scattering instrument at the OPAL reactor. Christine's fields of expertise include neutron science (polarized reflectometry and magnetic thin films) as well as neutron instrumentation (neutron optics, instrument simulation, neutron guides).
Christine received her PhD in 1999 from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, as research scientist of Hahn-Meitner Institute, where she investigated hydrogen-induced changes of structural and magnetic properties of metallic thin films. After her PhD, she joined the U.S. Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) project in Oak Ridge.
She worked on neutron instrumentation design and optimization by means of Monte Carlo simulation calculations for a variety of instruments: a neutron macromolecular crystallography diffractometer, a time-of-flight ultra-small-angle neutron scattering instrument, and a neutron optics test station. In addition, she performed a comprehensive analysis of neutron supermirrors studying irradiation effects, theoretical performance and influence on instrument performance.
Subsequently, her skills and expertise formed the base of her company American Scientific Instrumentation where she managed various neutron optics related projects involving guides and optical components, beam lines, instruments, etc. and distributed neutron optical components manufactured by SwissNeutronics.
