Accommodation, Meals and Transport ANSTO-HZB Neutron Training Course 2024

Transport 

Participants are responsible for their own transport from:

  • home / airport to Lucas Heights on Sunday 27th October
  • Sutherland Station to the airport on Friday 1st November

Attendees are encouraged to go to Lucas Heights directly from the Airport on Sunday 27th October. A bus has been organised to take all participants from ANSTO to Rydges Hotel on Sunday 27th at the conclusion of the day (approximately 5pm).

ANSTO has also arranged daily transport between the hotel and ANSTO.  However, the coach will go to Sutherland train station after the training course has concluded on Friday. 

On Monday - Friday, the bus will depart at 7.45am from the designated bus spot (outside the hotel) marked by the purple star on the map below. 

Please arrive promptly. If you miss the bus, you will be responsible for arranging your own transport to ANSTO by taxi or Uber. NOTE: There is no public transport to ANSTO.

Transport Options

Taxi – Please note an estimated fare from the airport to your hotel is approximately $80AUD and would take about 40 minutes in normal traffic (17km).  

Uber is available in Sydney.

These options are the only method of transport to ANSTO Lucas Heights on Sunday 27th October.

Public Transport

Sydney’s public transport is cashless for all trains, buses, light rail and ferries. The cost of the ticket will depend on the distance travelled. Prices can be found here.

If you have a contactless payment enabled credit card or device (e.g mobile phone or smart watch) this can be used for payment. Overseas attendees, please be aware that your bank may charge overseas transaction fees.  Alternatively, you can purchase an OPAL transport card or single trip ticket at the Domestic and International terminal railway stations or at any of these locations.

Please note there is surcharge to get on and off at the airport stations


Hotel Details

This is a residential training course, hence it is expected that local Sydney and Wollongong based participants will also stay at the hotel for the duration of the school. Please contact the Organisers if this presents a barrier to your participation. 

Each participant will have a single room booked and paid for at Rydges Cronulla Beachside 20 - 26 The Kingsway Cronulla NSW 2230.  Anyone that does not stay at the hotel and has not advised in advance will incur the full cost of the room for the duration of the course ($1250).  

Bookings consists of:

  • afternoon check in Sunday 27th October 
  • morning check out Friday 1st November

 

The closest train station to the hotel is Cronulla (7 min walk from station to hotel - 600 metres).

The Cronulla beaches are a 5-minute walk from the hotel. 

There is a wide range of cafes and restaurants in the area around the hotel and beach.

To travel by train from Cronulla to the Sydney CBD takes approximately one hour.

Meals

Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day of the course (including lunch on Sunday 27th October). Dinner will be provided at the poster session on Monday 28th October and at the gala dinner on Thursday 31 October.  All other meals are the responsibility of participants. 

Poster Session, drinks and buffet dinner - Monday 28th October

The poster session will be held on site at ANSTO. Attendees are invited to grab a drink from the bar and proceed to view the array of posters.  A buffet dinner will follow the poster session. A bus will depart for Rydges Hotel at 8pm.

Gala Dinner - Thursday 31st October

Thursday 31st October marks the Training Course's gala dinner.  It will be held at South Cronulla Bowling Club from 5:30 - 10pm.
