ANSTO - National Science Week

The time has finally come… it's time to prepare for National Science Week 2025 - where curiosity meets innovation and science helps decode the very fabric of our universe.

SOMETHING NEW & EXCITING!

For the past five years, ANSTO has proudly partnered with the Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA) and the Design Factory Global Network (DFGN) to deliver our highly successful National Science Week Hackathon. In 2025, we’re evolving the experience!

We are excited to launch a new National Science Week In-Class Design Challenge, specifically developed for Years 7-10, to align with the 2025 theme:

🪐 Decoding the Universe: Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language.🔭

This new in-class format equips teachers with a curriculum-aligned resource, designed to seamlessly support students as they explore the design thinking process in the classroom. This challenge invites students to explore the fundamental languages of nature, from quantum science and mathematics to pattern recognition and symmetry - and develop creative solutions to real-world mysteries.

Whether you’ve joined us in previous Hackathons or you’re new to the challenge, get ready to experience a hands-on, future-focused journey into the unknown, all from your classroom.

Why Get Involved?

  • Flexible delivery: Designed for completion within standard class time

  • Future-focused learning: Encourages STEM skills, critical thinking, and collaboration

  • Inclusive and accessible: No prior experience with Hackathons or design thinking required
