ANSTO Board member recognised in top 100 globally inspiring women

ANSTO Board member, Ms Erica Smyth has been named as one of the world’s most inspiring women.

Erica was listed as an inspiration by the UK’s Women in Mining group, a non-profit organisation that aims to promote the value women bring to the minerals sector.

Originally a geologist from Western Australia, Erica now holds numerous roles in the governance of organisations, including Chair of uranium company, Toro Energy, and directorships with the Diabetes Research Foundation and Royal Flying Doctors Service.  Twenty-nine Australian women made the list from a diverse range of occupations and interests.

As a great supporter of ANSTO’s initiatives towards supporting gender equity in the workplace, including our recently opened childcare centre, she participated in a planning session on the development of ANSTO’s Gender Equity Strategy, sharing her experience and insights on the issue.

Ms Smyth, who said that being on the ANSTO Board was the pinnacle of her scientific life, spoke to us about her achievements, and the particular value that women bring to workplaces that are traditionally dominated by men.
