Federal Budget

MEDIA RELEASE

Wednesday 3 April 2019

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) welcomes the Federal Budget, which supports the ongoing operation of ANSTO.

The budget increases ANSTO’s 2018-19 funding of $242.5 million by $112.4 million which includes more than $26 million for the support of nuclear medicine production.

This funding will support the ongoing operation of ANSTO, plus activities including proactive maintenance of ageing infrastructure, managing spent nuclear fuel and waste; and planning for the production of nuclear medicine into the future.

“This budget will help underwrite ANSTO’s ongoing contribution to medical science, cutting-edge research and industry”, said a spokesperson for ANSTO.

“On average, one in two Australians will require nuclear medicine during their lifetime, and this budget will ensure that we can continue this complex and technical process for the benefit of all Australians.”
