New technologies will deliver new answers to old questions about depression: Lecture by Prof Ian Hickie

 

Some of the latest technologies, such as structural and functional neuroimaging, immune markers and circadian measurements, are the subject of Prof Hickie’s clinical research. These technologies have the potential to determine the causes of depressive disorders from genetic and environmental factors.  

 

Prof Hickie also promotes the use of evidence based innovations in healthcare, including e-health interventions to prevent the onset of depression and e-health tools for clinical practice.

 

As the Executive Director of the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Research Institute and a National Mental Health Commissioner, Prof Hickie is a leading voice on mental health issues with a particular interest in the mental health of young people. He was the inaugural CEO of the national depressive initiative, beyondblue and has contributed to more than 490 academic publications on the neurosciences and mental health.
